thank you for this! as a former advertising creative director (in healthcare, no less), i’m in awe of the audacity to flout the rules by doing this as PSA and “unbranded” marketing. i know from experience that the Ad Execs (AEs) had many drinks celebrating their enormous “W” on this while ppl suffered and lost relatives.

also it’s particularly galling that they targeted Black Americans in the context of PREGNANCY for gods sake.

also from experience, i wouldn’t be at all surprised if the “magnetic” and “5G” claims were also part of their guerrilla campaign. i used to see adversarial false flag campaigns in niche music marketing, whereby an outsider to the niche slams the act and the label comes back around to say “see! all the right ppl hate us!”

Thank you for shedding (no pun intended…) light on yet another way that those in power believe they know better and we the people cannot think for ourselves, which unfortunately seems to becoming more evident each year. This depresses the hell out of me…

I thought it was strange during the pandemic that the vaccine "commercials" lacked the usual disclaimers. It was the governmental officials who were engaged in the messaging that were usually found in typical DTC commercials: vaccines work, safe and effective, etc.

Yeah, nearly everyone lost their minds during COVID. Fear just pervaded everything and so suddenly people thought that the industry with the dubious honor of paying the largest criminal fines in history where suddenly these benevolent selfless company's trying to help there fellow man!

North Korea got nothing on us.

Lee, if you keep going on like this, some of the MSM activists might get to understand what real journalism looks like. As always, thank you.

thank you ( I think)

Well put, I fully share your feelings. Lee's work reminds me of the Penn and Teller show that deconstructed magic tricks. The ingenuity of the illusions is often masked by the most banal of gestures, distractions, and omissions. At what point can you trust your own judgements?

That's really kind of you to say. That is indeed my goal.

The ads mentioned in the post speak to how Moderna and Pfizer were helping to in a sense hold Americans hostage unless we got one of their vaccines. “Why will you get vaccinated? … Because some people you just want to meet in person.” But you can't do that unless you take their product.

Yes, and that reminded me of all the old people left to die alone & in despair because their families weren't allowed to come see them during those stupid lockdowns. Never forget what they did to us, folks!

I couldn't even have a funeral for my father, who died in 2020 (not from Covid). There was no real "scientific" reason for any of this crap. They were playing us.

GS's avatar

Yes that was another problem. In my opinion not allowing people to see dying loved ones is criminal.

Thank you Lee for consistently providing write ups of outstanding investigative reporting. It’s unfortunate that we can’t find this type of journalism in legacy media anymore.

I got the Moderna vaccine and later got covid. I’m of the opinion that our government, including Congress, is so completely dominated by corporations, in other words entirely corrupt, that it is no longer functional.

I don't watch TV, but instead read people like you and I am so grateful.

BookWench's avatar

Neither do I -- well, not network TV, anyway -- and I never saw any of these ads.

This isn't the only insidious ad campaign from Big Pharma, their refusal advertising for their other products are also highly manipulative and misleading. They run so much advertising on mainstream news not to appeal to the average consumer who will need a doctor to prescribe the medication, it's to make sure that ad funded reporters will not investigate them. Don't bite the hand that feeds you as they say.

Susan G's avatar

Should direct to consumer Big Pharma ads be outlawed, "free" TV would cease to exist.

Excellent article. I am still seeing Pfizer vaccine ads. They're really trying to milk it as long as possible.

This actually brings up another point. We need a clear, unambiguous assessment of whether the vaccines are in fact harmful. There seems to be no public consensus, which is why these ads continue to run.

I appreciate your reporting on this. I'm sure the people in power would dearly love to throw 2020-2023 into the memory hole and pretend it never happened as long as they got to keep the profits.

Good piece, Lee. These people are heavy on hubris, light on science--despite how they think of themselves.
