In Gratitude to You
Wishing my readers an abundance of blessings, good health, and good times.
Time moves slowly, then in other moments, all at once. Not that long ago, I was agonizing over the future of journalism and whether I had made all the wrong decisions by charting a path along the traditional media sphere.
Now I have the good fortune and community of readers to be fully independent, writing on a diverse range of topics with total editorial freedom.
That is all thanks to you, the subscriber. Thank you so much.
Our investigative scoops reach far beyond the traditional ideological paradigm, from violations of civil liberties that impact Christian conservatives and anti-COVID mandate activists, to animal rights groups and left-leaning pro-Palestinian activists.
I assumed going the independent route meant losing a voice in national public policy debates. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Our reporting has ricocheted through Washington, D.C., with our journalism routinely cited over the last year in Supreme Court briefs and among the Beltway press corps. In February, I was invited to share some of my Substack-based reporting in a hearing before Congress.
There is so much political change on the horizon and I’m excited to cover it. We have many reporting projects in the works.
None of this would be possible without your support. Journalism of this type relies on people like you.
I am heading home to see family in Maryland. If you’re reading this, I hope you’re having a restful and peaceful Thanksgiving.
Whether you see yourself this way or not, Lee, you're among the crucial players of a new movement of journalists and commentators defined by their non-ideological pursuit of truth, their passion for shining the light in places that the major media platforms ignore (intentionally or not), and a movement that gives the rest of us hope that we may still strive for a more perfect union.
Truly grateful for your passionate commitment to restore and revive the old-fashioned idea of journalism committed to the public's right to know in a democratic and open society. Thank you!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family Lee! If it weren't for Substack, I wouldn't have experienced the great fortune to find you!
