Democratic Group Already Launching Impeachment Demands
Bizarre push demands impeachment over "disinformation" and Trump's association with Elon Musk.
Just fifty-five minutes after President Donald Trump’s inauguration ceremony commenced, a left-leaning advocacy group launched a demand for an impeachment inquiry to remove him from office.
John Bonifaz, the president of Free Speech for People, Inc., announced a demand to remove the president “for offenses he has already committed upon taking the oath.”
Free Speech for People released a special website titled Impeach Trump Again to promote the initiative. The organization suggested Trump could be impeached for a litany of offenses. Many of the supposed impeachment crimes they list – including "using racist, xenophobic rhetoric,” "spreading dangerous disinformation,” and appointing "billionaire campaign contributors such as Elon Musk” – violate no criminal law and suggest a poor understanding of the U.S. Constitution.
The group is promoting the impeachment inquiry across various social media channels.
The impassioned impeachment demand contrasts sharply with the exhausted nature of much of the anti-Trump left. Eight years ago, an estimated 3-4 million Americans protested in cities nationwide. Hundreds of thousands were demonstrated in Washington, D.C. This time, there were small, scattered protests, and left-wing crowds in D.C. were numbered in the thousands.
The anger at Trump’s first election rapidly transformed into a series of FBI and congressional investigations that attempted to show Russian influence over his 2016 presidential campaign. The investigations failed to demonstrate definitive evidence of any election tampering or other malign influence that may have shaped the outcome of that race.
But the partisan frenzy raised hundreds of millions of dollars for left-leaning advocacy groups promising to bring the fight to Trump. Shortly after Trump’s first inauguration, the ACLU raised $24 million in a single weekend with promises to stop his executive actions in the courts. Free Speech for People was among the many left organizations that pushed for impeachment several times during the first Trump administration.
"We're in communication with Tom Steyer," boasted Bonifaz, referencing the Democratic billionaire while discussing his efforts to fundraise for an impeachment inquiry in 2017. Evidently, some billionaire influence is welcomed by the group.
